Peace Anumah
Listing managed by this therapistI am an experienced psychotherapist and Accredited EMDR Therapist, offering a warm, relational and trauma-informed approach to therapy. I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including childhood and developmental trauma, relational trauma, anxiety, depression, bereavement, betrayal, low self-esteem, difficult family experiences, and traumatic medical or birth experiences. I also work with clients who may appear to be coping well externally but recognise that past experiences continue to affect their relationships, emotional wellbeing, self-belief or sense of safety. My approach integrates EMDR with systemic, relational and other evidence-informed therapeutic approaches. I understand trauma within the wider context of a person’s life and relationships, recognising the influence of attachment, family experiences, culture, identity, faith and significant relationships. EMDR is therefore tailored to the individual rather than applied as a one-size-fits-all intervention. I work collaboratively and at a pace that feels manageable, with careful attention to preparation, stabilisation and emotional safety before trauma processing begins. Therapy may focus on processing specific traumatic experiences or on understanding and changing longer-standing patterns such as shame, people-pleasing, perfectionism, avoidance, difficulty trusting, fear of rejection or repeated relational difficulties. My aim is to help clients not only reduce distress, but also develop greater self-understanding, emotional regulation and self-trust, so that past experiences have less influence over how they live and relate in the present. My practice is culturally responsive and welcomes exploration of the aspects of identity that are important to each client. Where Christian faith is personally meaningful, I can also integrate faith into the therapeutic process at the client’s request.
